i’m cool, too!

in case my current hci-geek standing might otherwise be called into question, i just thought you’d like to know that i’m playing with my website over break. i Need to update and accessibilize my portfolio and application elements of that nature (and no, worry not, i won’t use the word ‘accessibilize’ in any of my official propaganda), and i have a list of things i’ve been wanting to play with in terms of customizing my blog, so i’ve got myself a good little project to squeeze between capstone work, a personal statement, and slices of pumpkin pie.
today i fiddled around a little and made a picture that looks like this.
if you have any strong reactions one way or the other, i would love to hear them.
otherwise i will fiddle with it more later, and it may well change entirely, because that’s how these things go.

now, however, i have been charged with the preparation of asparagus, so i must switch gears…

    Seems kind of sterile.

I think it looks nice. Sure, a tad sterile maybe. But what does that even mean?

My initial reaction though was “ROUNDED CORNERS HARD!!!!”

Sterile: what you get when you go from a provocative – but completely non-Freudian – image of a car in a tunnel (makes me think of the UNKLE video) to neutral round dots. Not necessarily a bad thing. Especially if that was the goal.

  4. kynthia Says:

yeah, the car is nice, but i didn’t make it. you can have your own provocative car in a tunnel for the low, low price of free!! [see hard-to-read-due-to-subtle-monochromatics link at bottom of page]

i’ve tweaked the theme a fair bit since i started out, but i want to start from scratch so that the code is more intentional – i want to force myself to hold each piece in my virtual hands and say “yes, i want this here, and i want it to look and behave like this.” so, to that end, the goal is just to think of something that is as simple as possible while still being different enough to impart that force upon me.

    shrug

so i can concede that right now it looks a bit like something a robot could make, but i can Like things that robots make, right?! especially if they are me…

that’s a bit of 12:30(MST)/2:30(EST) logic if i’ve ever seen it.
    ;)

and erik, you’re right, the rounded corners are a challenge, but i think they’re getting easier?

Jeez, I had no idea of the travail involved with the rounded corner. I take back everything I said.
