’tis the season

it’s been quite a while since i posted, but i’m tellin’ ya, it’s not for lack of better intentions.
since returning from WV, my time has been jampacked, and it has actually felt pretty good, but both blogging and housekeeping have fallen by the wayside, and i’m going to try to make strides to catch up in both dimensions this weekend.

there is only one more week of class before spring break, a fact which snuck up on me in a rather pleasant way. i’m humoring the possibility of weekend excursions over the break (memphis on the way in (to dance) and/or st. louis on the way out (to climb around in old airplanes and scale the sides of buildings), but otherwise i plan to stay here, and i’m hoping to get quite a bit done. it’s capstone crunch time (we should make a cereal, or at least a cereal box, for capstone (or cap’n-stone?) crunch… that would rock), and i’m behind with my paperpushing at work in a somewhat grievous way, so i should put in some undivided filetime.
the moral of the story is: i’m just chugging away, watching the time fly by, trying to enjoy as much as i can of the view.

yesterday and today have been chilly, but the beginning of the week was absolutely gorgeous, making me aware that my bones are beginning to voice their official eagerness for spring. my love of snow and the delight that i find in the crispness of winter have been slowly tested by cold rains, biting winds, and numb biking fingers, and i’m ready to let them hibernate with my sweaters so that they can emerge rejuvenated next year. crocuses will start popping up soon, and i expect that i will post a picture or two to mark the occasion. i should also do a series on the remarkable change in the view from my office windows as dunn woods bud and leaf. when i walk down the street now i will begin to zoom in on puppies and babies, and revel in the way that hints of flowers begin to waft on the breeze. i will smell barbeques, and smile at frisbees, and feel a general warmth about the human race.
i will enjoy the day that i consume my first outdoor ice cream cone.
it’s a cheesy annual progression of events, but i love it.
i love the midwest because it reminds me that there are four seasons.
in colorado there are really only two, and i am saddened by that.

in other spring-related news, i spent mardi gras at the bluebird, which was a blast. i have some pictures i should post on flickr, so hopefully i’ll get around to that in the next coupla days as well.
i have done something fun and social every night this week, beginning on sunday, and while that has made some things difficult in academic life, it has also been very nice. i like having the bubble of schoolwork broken through regular exposure to the outside world. it helps with the identification of big rocks, as marty might say.
the schedule was:
monday: jazz and wine tasting at tutto bene.
tuesday: dressup and dancing at the bluebird for mardi gras.
wednesday: bloomington in the jazz age, the contra dance, and nachos and beer at upland.
thursday: the aristocrats, supposedly via the ryder, but then actually at erik’s because the cinemat *rented their copy* of the movie they were supposed to be screening.
(man, that is hilarious…
i love small town video stores…)
so anyway, we found another copy at plan 9 and had our own showing, with pizza and accidental cherry vanilla coke slushies.
i have thoughts on the film, but that’s another post, i believe.

now, i think i’ll go to a talk.

a merry weekend to you all.
